An 11-year-old girl was shot inside her home in the East New York section of Brooklyn. She got shot right through her shoulder; the bullet pierced her shoulder and went out the other side- she's in stable condition. I was reporting on the scene in the aftermath (journalists swarmed the area, plenty of cops on the streets, too). I have a tag line at the bottom of the article.
To build a bomb the Iranians would need, "added purification" (no idea what that means yet). Evidently, UN weapons inspectors only run independent checks on Iran's program once a year. The lack of more consistent independent checks was just disclosed this week and surprised independent nuclear weapons experts who, according to the Times article, criticized the lack of serious inspections.
The BBC recently published a profile on a friend of mine, Ali Adeeb. Ali's from Baghdad and, after the fall of Saddam's regime, eventually became the manager of the New York Times' Baghdad Bureau. Now he's studying at NYU where he's a colleague of mine. I strongly recommend this article.
Another Valentine's article I did (actually post-Valentine's, I guess). This time I worked on the assignment with my friend Phil Molnar, who's interning as well.
Check out the Charlie Rose show last night. The first half hour was devoted to the Israeli elections, the second half hour was devoted to the future of newspapers. Above is the second half of the show.
